Mechatronics 9

Mechatronics 9 is a new combo course offered starting September 2022.

This course is a unique sampler of 3 courses that teaches basics of Mechanical and Structural Engineering, Electronics and Robotics, and Drafting and Design. Students will be introduced to a variety of engineering fields and investigate basic principles within those fields. Working in groups of 2 or exploring on their own, students will be given challenges and design engineering and electronic solutions. Once the solution has been realized, a prototype will be built and tested. Everything must have a plan before it is built; so, this course will also introduce students to the concepts of design and visual communication by developing skills in sketching and technical drawings. As a part of this course, students will learn how to use a variety of materials and equipment to produce the prototype projects. Students will be also introduced to ACAD and Arduino programs as well as fundamentals of electronics. Students will experiment with a variety of electronic components on a solderless breadboard. They will demonstrate an understanding of basic circuits before proceeding to program Arduino microcontrollers and apply basic electronics skills to explore robotics.

Projects may include the Great Earthquake challenge, a Mini-Gravity Car and a remote-controlled Cyborg Mask.
